We are looking for an Assistant Teacher to work in the Junior School. The successful candidate will be an outstanding and experienced Early Years practitioner who is committed to students achieving academic excellence within an exciting and challenging curriculum framework.

Type of contract: Temporary (Maternity Cover)

Start date: August, 2024

Job Responsibilities include:

Teaching and Learning:

  • Assist in the educational and social development of pupils under the direction and guidance of the specific class teacher and Head of Head of Milepost.
  • Assist the teacher during the lesson by providing support for individual pupils in the classroom.
  • Supervise the activities of groups of pupils under the direction of the teacher.
  • Provide consistent and effective support for specialist children within specialist lessons.
  • Provide support for individual pupils inside and outside the classroom to enable them to fully participate in activities.
  • Be aware of children with identified needs and assist in the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for those pupils where appropriate.
  • Support pupils with social and emotional development and encourage independence where applicable and appropriate to the situation.
  • Support pupils who do not speak English as a first language, encourage pupils to interact with each other in English and develop the pupils’ command of the English language

Administrative Duties:

  • Check pupils have correct equipment and resources for the school day and to communicate with parents through reception where appropriate.
  • Monitor pupil's access to learning and to question and support where applicable.
  • Set up equipment and materials required for lessons. Assist with the creation of support materials.
  • Assist class teachers with directed administrative tasks which support learning.
  • Prepare and present displays of pupils' work.
  • Assist class teachers with maintaining pupil records.
  • Supervise dining area and stay with pupils in dining area.
  • Undertake playground supervision during breaks according to the rota.
  • Support or lead a co curricular activity.

Standards and Quality Assurance:

  • Support the aims and ethos of the school.
  • Promote positive pupil behaviour in line with School policies.
  • Attend meetings as required by the school and assist with parents’ evenings.
  • Speak to parents before and after school regarding the progress of their children and interpret for class teachers as necessary. Ensure that any information passed on from parents and other adults responsible for a child’s welfare is communicated to the class teacher.
  • Attend school assemblies and other events.
  • Encourage children when speaking English and promote its frequency for language acquisition.
  • Ensure that information relating to pupils is kept confidential.
  • Be proactive in matters relating to health and safety.
  • Understand Safeguarding procedures in line with school policy.

Other Professional Requirements:

  • Contribute to the development of the HAS schemes of work by creating teaching and learning resources that can be shared within the department.
  • Share good practice and contribute to the professional development of other members of staff by participating in PDR as requested.
  • Assist with the prompt registration of pupils as requested.
  • Set a good example to pupils through presentation, personal and professional conduct, including arriving punctually for lessons and following the school dress code for staff.
  • Be familiar with key school policies and procedures.
  • Attend and participate in meetings as required.
  • Establish and maintain effective and professional working relationships with colleagues.
  • Keep abreast of current educational developments and practice.
  • Undertake other duties as the Headmaster may reasonably direct.
Requirements:
  • Teaching Degree
  • Advanced level of English, minimum IELTS 6.0 (desirable)
  • At least 2 years of teaching experience, preferentially worked with yearly years children
