We are looking for a PE Assistant Teacher. The ideal candidate for this position should have a passion for working with children as well as experience of working within a school environment. A good level of English, swimming skill and water safety is a must, to provide support and high standards of education and care for our students.

Type of contract: Temporary contract, maternity leave cover

Responsibilities:

Teaching and Learning:

1. Lead and assist in the educational and social development of pupils under the direction and guidance of the specific Specialist teacher through PE or swimming to all year groups in the School alongside other teachers.

2. Provide consistent and effective support for specialist teachers in Swimming and PE.

3. Support pupils who do not speak English as a first language, encourage pupils to interact with each other in English and develop the pupils’ command of the English language.

4. Support and assist in the overall organisation and smooth running of the PE Department through any other relevant, appropriate, and directed tasks.

Administrative Duties:

1. Encourage and track pupils attendance and organisation skills in terms of appropriate kit and engagement in lessons

2. Assess pupils work at key points in the year group following department assessment policy and procedures including liaising with Parents when necessary.

3. Prepare and set up equipment and materials required for PE and Swimming lessons and assist with the creation of support materials.

4. Support and lead Co Extra Curricular Activities and assist in the organisation, and running of, large School sports events such as Sports Day and Swim Galas

Standards and Quality Assurance:

1. Support the aims and ethos of the school.

2. Promote positive pupil behaviour in line with School policies.

3. Attend meetings as required by the school and assist with parents’ evenings.

4. Speak to parents before and after school regarding the progress of their children and interpret for class teachers as necessary.

5. Attend school assemblies and other events.

6. Encourage pupils to speak English as much as possible both in the classroom and around the school.

7. Ensure that information relating to pupils is kept confidential.

8. Be proactive in matters relating to health and safety.

9. Be aware of child protection and safety procedures.

Requirements:

• Teaching Qualification,

• Swimming skills and water safety knowledge

• Advanced level of English

• At least three years of coaching experience, preferentially worked with children
